Microsoft has, after a long time, officially released Remote desktop client for Apple IOS and Android. First reviews are mixed. Some are complaining about lack of pinch to zoom and some for lack of proper video acceleration.
Instead of developing IOS and Android applications, Microsoft chose to buy IOS and Android products (iTap mobile) from Austrian based company HLW Software. If you visit their website you will see that they have discontinued their products, now only one product exist – MS Remote desktop for IOS and Android.
MS Remote desktop for IOS features:
•Access to remote resources through the Remote Desktop Gateway
•Rich multi-touch experience with remote desktop protocol (RDP) and RemoteFX supporting Windows gestures
•Secure connection to your data and applications with breakthrough Network Layer Authentication (NLA) technology
•Simple management of all remote connections from the connection center
•High quality video and sound streaming with improved compression and bandwidth usage
•Easy connection to external monitors or projectors for presentations
What I really like is that you can send you client rdp file, they can open it in email and Remote desktop will open it. It still has limitations of Remote desktop – it doesn’t work through firewalls. You have to connect via VPN in order to use RDP.
