Nakivo has released the latest version of Nakivo Backup & Replication. Version 9.4 continues the trend of releasing improvements and refinements on a regular basis. Physical server backup was one of the most welcomed features released this year. Many companies have still at least some physical servers. Besides, what about workstations? Workstations from Designers, Accountants, CIOs, Managers… they all have important data which requires protection. By having one backup for the infrastructure, it makes sense to have the ability to physical devices as well as your virtual or cloud infrastructure. In version 9.4, you will be able to recover physical devices instantaneously, by starting them in VMs. That is possible on VMware currently.
Flash VM is Nakivos technology that can start VM directly from the backup. That way, If a disaster happens, you don’t have to spend hours restoring from the backup first. When the worst happens, every minute of downtime is a nightmare. But, if the worst really happens, you start VM from the backup, you are up and running in a minute, and after working hours, you can restore easily.
Now, let’s talk about the cloud. If several years ago, we talked about the cloud and how that will become a new reality, we are now living it. More and more companies are using some form of the cloud. Either for running servers in the cloud, using cloud services, or using the cloud for the backup. Amazon S3 has become a standard and so it is only natural that Nakivo implemented support for that service. You can now send your backups of virtual machines and physical servers directly to Amazon S3 buckets. Since Nakivo uses compression and deduplication you will save with the cloud storage cost. In addition, you will also see an increase in speed and recovery as data will be optimized.
What about restores? You can restore directly from a compressed backup. Some vendors require you to first decompress the data and only after you can recover. Nakivo is an exception here. You can use Flash VM, you can restore individual application items like Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and SQL server, individual folders, or files.
Did you know you can try Nakivo for free for 30 days?
Nakivo Backup and Replication 9.4 features
Backup to Amazon S3
You can now send backups and backup copies directly to Amazon S3 buckets. To make backup faster and to reduce the burden on the network, Nakivo will perform incremental backup after the initial full backup to Amazon S3. Built-in data compression will also optimize space savings and recovery speed up.
Instant Object Recovery to Source for Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Active Directory.
The latest version improves the Instant Recovery feature for MS Exchange and Active Directory objects. Now it allows you to restore objects to their original location.
Instant Physical to Virtual Recovery
By using Nakivo Flash VM boot functionality, you can run VMware VMs directly from physical machines backups. That way in case of machine failure, you can be up in running in no time.
Backup of Fault-Tolerant VMware VMs
Nakivo can now back up and recover fault-tolerant virtual machines. Nakivo does its magic by automatically creating a duplicated secondary VM that is logically identical to the primary VM. What this means is that all the changes to the primary VM, are also instantly applied to the secondary VM.
When there is a disruption, fault-tolerant VMs instantly fail over the secondary VM. Users that way operate without disruption.
Role-Based Access
Role-Based Access is another enterprise-grade function that is common in products that cost way much more than Nakivo. That feature enables you to configure users’ access rights and actions that are available to these users. That way you can limit users what they can do and which information they can see. You will reduce the chance of human errors for sure plus you will be able to deny access to unauthorized users.
Conclusion
Nakivo has released another stream of useful updates to their no1 backup product. Backup to Amazon S3 is a feature a lot of admins will appreciate. But not only because of the Amazon, but also because you will be able to use backup provides that utilize Amazon S3 APIs, but provide much cheaper services. If you are a Microsoft user, then Instant Object recovery to the source is also a welcome edition. Role-based Access and Backup of Fault-tolerant VMware VMs are just the tips of topping. Nice release as always. You can try Nakivo for free for 30 days or you can use a free edition if you have just some VMs to backup.
