Today I received notification from PRTG that size on C: is below 10% on Exchange 2010 server. I decided to expand C: drive as this is really a great feature on Windows 2008 and up. Managing servers on virtual infrastructure is really great. First I created a backup, then I expanded disk in VMware.
But when I pressed rescan disk, Windows server threw blue screen. Whew, blue screen. After restart I was able to expand C drive but I noticed that my Outlook is still not connecting. I checked Mailbox stores and they were not mounted.
I checked event log and noticed the following error: Unable to initialize the Information Store service because the clocks on the client and server are skewed. This may be caused by a time change either on the client or on the server, and may require a restart of that computer. Verify that your domain is correctly configured and is currently online.
At first I thought that problem is related to Domain Controller, I checked time on all DC’s, all was ok, then I checked If exchange is able to connect to all DC’s, no problem.
Then I remembered that I had similar problem with our spam server and that the problem is clock on VMware host. I could solve the problem by restarting the server and adjust the time, but then I would have to restart the server again.
Simple solution worked:
1. Start CMD as administrator
2. Type and Run Net time \\ADServerName /Set
3. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service
Error: Unable to initialize the Information Store service because the clocks on the client and server are skewed. This may be caused by a time change either on the client or on the server, and may require a restart of that computer. Verify that your domain is correctly configured and is currently online.
Just make sure that you fix time on the host.
